Sulina Lighthouse

Romania

Sulina is situated at the mouth of the Danube and though a relatively small town of 4000 inhabitants has five lighthouses listed all in various states of repair. This has made tracing the Chance lens very challenging. It is listed in Chance records as Sulina, mouth of the Danube.
A new modern light known as Sulina Main came into use in 1983 and this lighthouse replaced the previous light built in 1856.
The original 1856 lighthouse has been left high and dry inland due to silting of the Danube.
In November 2017 a grant of €2.2 million was given to restore the lighthouse and a small museum now occupies the lighthouse buildings with information about Sulina. The museum does not appear to have a website at present.
The tower can be climbed for a view of the area.
