South Solitary Island

Australia

Excerpt:
The original Fresnel lens has been in storage. In March 2022 plans were announced to restore the lens for display in a new waterfront community center. The Solitary Islands are a restricted marine reserve, closed to the public. In 2004 NSW National Parks spent $440,000 restoring the buildings and in 2020 AMSA completed at $1.5 million restoration. There is a proposal to build a replica of the lighthouse at Coffs Harbour. The Friends of South Solitary Island Lighthouse help maintain the station. Located at the summit of the island about 15 km (9 mi) northeast of Coffs Harbour. Site and tower closed; the lighthouse can be seen from boat tours and helicopter flights from Coffs Harbour. The Parks Authority offers on-site tours by helicopter during autumn and winter months.
