Brazil
The quest for a lighthouse in Fortaleza started in 1829 and was eventually built between 1840 and 1846. The lighthouse was damaged by fire in 1846 and was renovated in 1872. Chance Brothers of Smethwick near Birmingham supplied the new fourth order revolving optic and the name appears as Macoripa Point in their list of lights under construction in 1871.
The light was decommissioned in 1957 and was renovated in 1981/1982 first being used as a restaurant then a museum.
When the museum closed in 2004 the lighthouse again fell into disrepair and has become a target for graffiti.
