Itapua Lighthouse (Ponta Itapua)

Brazil

The coast of Brazil is fraught with danger and in 1868 a military engineer Zozimo Barosso published a study about illuminating the coastline of Brazil. He worked at P&W MacLellan in Glasgow and it was from this company that the pre fabricated kit form of cast iron lighthouse was supplied. The company supplied nine such "kit" form lighthouses to Brazil.
The 3rd order optic for the light was supplied by Chance Brothers of Smethwick near Birmingham
The lighthouse was eventually inaugurated on September 7th 1873.
I am unware if the Chance lens is still in situ but the light has been recently updated (actual date unknown) increasing its range up to 14 miles from the previous 12.
