Beecroft Point (Lagos, Old Lagos) Lighthouse

Nigeria

Fixed lights: new Chance sections 80 degree vertical angle

The Lagos Lighthouse is located on Tarkwa Bay; Takwa Bay is one of the small island located along the Atlantic coast not far away from Lagos Island.

You can only access the Lagos Lighthouse by boat ride that takes about fifteen minutes from Five Cowrie Bridge. Tarkwa Bay is an artificial island created during the construction of Lagos Harbour.

It takes about 30 minutes to walk to get to the Lagos Lighthouse from the Takwa Bay Jetty.

It is conical in shape and was built with burnt bricks to guide sailing vessels in and out of Lagos. There is a ruined building next to the lighthouse which may have been that of the lighthouse keeper, but it is traditionally called Lugard’s rest house.

Reported inactive since 2009 but listed in Active lighthouses in List of Lights and Navionics maps.
