Al Ikhwaan Lighthouse (Akhaween, the brothers)

This lighthouse was built by the British; the original Chance Brothers Fresnel lens remains in use and is still turned by clockwork that must be wound by hand every 4 hours. The station, refurbished in 1993, is staffed by the Egyptian Navy, but visitors are usually welcome. The island is included in Egypt's Red Sea Marine Park. Located atop a 400 m (1/4 mi) long rocky island in the middle of the Red Sea about 65 km (40 mi) east of Al-Qusayr.
