The original optic was a Stone-Chance catadioptric lens – the first automatic lighthouse erected in South Africa to have an aluminium lattice structure. During a violent wind storm in 1991 the lattice structure, lantern and optic were destroyed. A Pharos Marine PRB 21 sealed beam lamp array type optic was installed when the replacement concrete structure was commissioned in 1993.
