Point Cloates

This was a very remote station. Two lightkeepers and their families worked here. The positions were formally abolished in July 1936.

In that year the light was replaced by a 22m steel lattice tower, which was built on nearby Fraser Island, a sandy islet just offshore from Point Cloates. That tower was destroyed in a storm in 1966.

The current lighthouse is a GRP cabinet run by solar power, about 1km south of the original tower.
