United Kingdom
Built in 1905 by David and Charles Stevenson, (possibly David is same David as Inner lighthouse in 1877, could be Father and son both times, Charles being the grandson of Thomas). Paraffin powered (although the inner lightouse was converted to gas around this time).
Electrified in 1977, and so fully automated.

Lantern 38M above sea level so much higher than inner lighthouse, which makes sense as much larger waterway and much through traffic between Arran and mainland Scotland, wheras west side of Holy island is essentially a small harbour. The island got its name from being the home of St. Molaise in the 6th century. Holy Island is owned by a Buddish community (since 1992). Visitors are welcome. The lighthouse can be visted on foot after taking a ferry from Lamlash on the isle of Arran to Holy Island. https://www.holyisle.org/getting-here/ ARLHS SCO-100; Admiralty A4330; NGA 4320. |
