Wakaya Island

Fiji

Very little information seems available about this now abandoned lighthouse.
The station was first established in 1902 with a third order fixed and occulting light supplied by Chance Brothers of Smethwick near Birmingham. Based on the fact that this appears to be a hexagonal tower on piles it may well be that the whole lighthouse was supplied from England in kit form and assembled on site on the island.
The light was decommissioned in 2016 when a new light was commissioned 400 metres away from the original lighthouse.
Wakaya is now a privately owned resort island and the lighthouse is located near the southern end of the island which is only accessible by boat.
