South Africa
The lens, tower and ancillary equipment were manufactured in 1914 but due to the First World War the lighthouse was only commissioned in March 1919. Slangkop Lighthouse is the tallest cast iron lighthouse on the South African coast. Its name is derived from the Slangkop (“Snake Head”) hill directly behind the lighthouse.
