Paranagua Lighthouse (Ponta Das Conchas, Ilha do Mel)

Brazil

The lighthouse is situated on a high point on the Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) in the mouth of the Baia de Paranagua to guide vessels into Paranagua Bay.
It was built in 1872 and is one of 9 "kit" form cast iron lighthouses made by P & W McLellan of Glasgow and shipped out to Brazil.
The 3rd order optic was made by Chance Brothers of Smethwick near Birmingham.
It appears that this lens is no longer in situ looking at a close-up photograph of the lantern area.
The island is a state park and ecological reserve with beautiful beaches, easily accessed by tourist boats from Paranagua or Ponta do Sul.
