The Kapu lighthouse was built in 1901 by the East India Company, on the shores of the Arabian Sea close to Kaup Beach. It is 27.12 meters tall.

This is easily the best known lighthouse of Karnataka. In December 2021 district officials announced plans for visitor improvements including a paved path and viewing platform. Located on a low but rocky promontory interrupting a lengthy beach about 16 km (10 mi) south of Udupi. Site open, tower open daily in late afternoons.
