Iceland
I have been unable to find very much information about the lighthouse itself. The lighthouse is situated on an island in the north west of Reykjavik on the Seltjarnarnes peninsula about 15 kilometres from Reykjavik centre and marks the entrance to the city's harbour.
The first lighthouse was built in 1897 but the present lighthouse was constructed in 1947 and fitted with a Chance optic from Smethwick near Birmingham in England.
The light was electrified in 1956 but I have no further information regarding the status of the Chance lens though information from the Icelandic Transport Authority stated that the majority of lighthouses were updated with automation and this included removal of "outdated and old" equipment.
The Island is only accessible at low tide but is an important bird sanctuary and is completely closed during the breeding season in May and June.
It is also a very popular tourist destination for watching the aurora borealis (northern lights) and has a hot pool where you can dip your feet in after a long day of sightseeing!!
