The light is situated on the eastern side of the Yangon River estuary and was built in 1869.
It appears to have been abandoned at some point but is believed to have been recently restored and is now back in use.

| Lighthouse Markings | The lighthouse is a 105 foot high cast iron skeletal tower with lantern, gallery and weather vane. It has a single storey keepers house raised up from the base with surrounding veranda. The lantern house appears to be white and black and the keepers house a reddish brown. |
