Daedalus Reef Lighthouse

Egypt

The lighthouse is one of a number of lights established by the French to safeguard navigation in the Red Sea after the Suez Canal was opened.
It is built on Daedalus reef, a small and low reef which barely breaks the surface of the sea. It is located approximately 90km east of Marsa Alam.
The first lighthouse was built on the reef in 1863 but subsequently rebuilt in 1931 and further refurbished in 1993.
The first lighthouse was a round cast iron tower before the stone tower was built in 1931. There is very little information regarding the Chance optic but I presume this was fitted in the cast iron tower of 1863 but I am ubable to confirm if it was repositioned into the new tower of 1931 or if it survived the refurbishment of 1993.
I have been unable to find any information to say it was removed or what replaced it so I have made a presumption it is still in use at present.
The reef itself is a very popular diving area and is part of Egypt's Red Sea Marine Park.
