Cape Bowling Green Lighthouse

1874 Lighthouse constructed of local hardwood with galvonised iron plates from Britian.
Prefabricated in Brisbane and erected on site by John and Jacob Rooney of Maryborough.
Chance Brothers dioptic lens with kerosene lamp rotated with a clockwork mechanism. 4 keepers.

1878 beach erosion threatened lighthouse so it was moved,

1908 further erosion meant another move for the lighthouse.

1913 incandescent gas mantle operated by vapourised kereosene installed.

1920 a fixed automated acetylene gas lamp with sun valve installed. Lighthouse demanded.

1985 a racon installed

1987 lighthouse replaced by current skeletal tower. Old lighthouse dismantled and shipped to Sydney.

1994 Lighthouse reassembled at the Australian National Maritime Museum where it is on display, still working, maintaining its original light characteristic.
