Ardrossan Pierhead Lighthouse

Replaced earlier structure in 1898; this earlier structure dates back to 1840 although other Ardrossan harbour improvements were not completed until 1864. Important for safe entry and egress for vessels using the harbour; this is why it is still used today, with a popular marina and daily car ferries amongst other activities.
